Rezūm™ Water Vapor Therapy
Targeted steam energy that reduces obstructing prostate tissue, so the body reabsorbs it and urinary flow improves.
Overview
What this treatment does
Rezūm™ uses a few seconds of sterile water vapor delivered directly into the obstructing prostate tissue. The steam releases stored thermal energy that treats the cells it contacts; over the following weeks the body absorbs the treated tissue and the urinary channel opens.
Rezūm is an in-office alternative to surgical resection for men with moderate to severe BPH symptoms, including many patients with an enlarged median lobe who are not ideal candidates for a prostatic lift.
How it works
Step by step
- 1
Evaluation
Prostate size and shape, flow rate, residual volume, and symptom scores determine whether steam therapy fits your anatomy.
- 2
The procedure
Several nine-second vapor treatments are delivered through the urethra during a short office visit under local anesthesia, often with comfort options available.
- 3
Healing phase
Symptoms typically improve over two to six weeks as the treated tissue is reabsorbed, with continued improvement over the first few months.
