What this treatment does
Botox® (onabotulinumtoxinA) is injected into the bladder wall to reduce the involuntary muscle contractions that cause sudden urgency and urge leakage. It is an established third-line therapy for overactive bladder when behavioral measures and medications have not delivered enough relief.
The procedure is performed in the office through a cystoscope, usually with local anesthetic instilled into the bladder first. Effects typically last around six months, after which treatment can be repeated.
